Andrew Gordon's Biography
Chuojiao Fanzi Halifax Martial Arts Andrew Gordon

Andrew (Gao An Zhuo) began his study of Martial Arts at an early age, which for him has become his passion and his obsession. Born with severe Asthma, Andrew spent many days and weeks of his early childhood years living in the hospital. Much of this time was spent conversing with the top Doctors in the respiratory field in an effort to help ease his suffering. With only minimal results from various medicines his Doctors recommended that he be enrolled in an athletic program for asthmatics to strengthen his lungs through physical exercise. As is the case with most young boys, Andrew had a love for action movies. However, not just any old action movie would do, it had to have some type of martial arts. It was the persuasiveness of Andrew's uncle Tim, a black belt in Shotokan Karate and more importantly a survivor of cancer that helped open the door to this wonderful world. It was with hopes that Andrew, like his uncle could gain some of the health benefits from the unique exercises. Though unable to run and maintain long bursts of energy that is required during classes, Andrew found his own way to practice. He worked at his katas (forms) very slowly and in time found that his lung capacity grew and endurance levels improved. It was not long there after that the teachers began to have Andrew leading the classes in kata practice.

As a teenager he began to lose interest in karate and stopped training to play baseball for a few years. Still with a love for the Martial Arts, Andrew sought to find a style that gave him the same excitement he felt as a child. This path led him to the discovery of Wushu with its dynamic movements. Over the past decade and a half Andrew has performed in many demonstrations including: Chinese New Years, Dragon Boat Festivals, and the Multicultural Festival. In early 2004, Andrew's dream came true when he traveled to Lixian in Hebei, China, which is the birthplace of the Chuo Jiao style. It is also the home of Andrew's Chuo Jiao teachers Wang He Ling and Di Guo Yong, both apprentices of the top Chuo Jiao Master of his day, Wu Bin Lou. It was there that Andrew had the honor of performing with many of China's top Masters and townsfolk for the first ever Chuo Jiao Federation meeting and demonstration.
